Alan Wong

Festival Manager

Gimli Film Festival

Alan Wong is the recently appointed Executive Director of the Gimli Film Festival, Manitoba’s premiere film exhibition event and the largest rural film festival in Canada. He is also one of the founders of FascinAsian, a culturally specific film & media arts festival which aims to celebrate stories of the Asian diaspora, while offering professional development opportunities to Asian-Canadian artists.

A veritable Jack-of-all-trades, Alan holds a Bachelor of Music degree from Brandon University and a certificate in Arts & Cultural Management from the University of Winnipeg. He started his career off as a multi-talented performer in music, theatre, film, and television, eventually moving behind the camera to become an award-winning independent Filmmaker.

Having also freelanced on large studio productions as a coordinator or sound technician, Alan gained a well-rounded understanding of the industry, which included a three-year term working corporately with Buffalo Gal Pictures before being hired as the Festival Manager of the Gimli Film Festival.

He is excited to be taking over the direction of the festival as they come out of two consecutive years of pandemic restrictions and is looking forward to bringing the festival energy back to the community. Alan also serves as the President of ACTRA Manitoba, the local branch of the union for film, television, and radio performers, and on various industry committees.
