Rebecca Steele

Producer

Rebecca Steele is a Vancouver-based producer and founder of film production company, Kind Stranger Productions. With a reverence for international cinema and enthusiasm for collaborating with auteur filmmakers, under her company banner she aspires to amplify a broad spectrum of voices and partner on international co-productions.

Having spent much of her young adult life studying theatre and acting, Rebecca brings an insatiable curiosity for the human condition to her work and is drawn towards stories that feel far from the boundaries of her lived experience. It was the six years she spent living in New York City, during which time she studied at Circle in the Square Theatre School and worked with Greencard Pictures and Killer Films, that ignited her drive to create her own work and propel her on a path towards producing.

Her recent projects, "The Quieting" and "Daughter," have screened around the world, most notably at Inside Out, São Paulo IFF and VIFF. In 2021 Rebecca produced Anthony Shim's sophomore feature, "Riceboy Sleeps." Shot in Vancouver and in South Korea on 16mm film, the journey from development to delivery holds as the most formative and rewarding experience of her career thus far. "Riceboy Sleeps" had its World Premiere at TIFF 2022 to which it played to sold out screenings throughout the festival and awarded the prestigious Platform Prize.
